難怪咁多人要爭相回流掘金

這是「農夫」歌曲「十年人事」的其中幾句歌詞。最近開車時每次聽到這隻歌都被這幾句歌詞牽動。
我在九十年代初在加拿大讀大學。畢業後回流是當時的一個大趨勢（當年還沒有發明回流這個詞彙）。但我在友儕間大力的推動不回流，理由是，我們拿了加拿大的護照，受了加拿大的栽培，我們對這國家該有承擔。我覺得作為加拿大公民，理應留下服侍貢獻這國家。儘管當時我一家四口四散在四個地方（香港，內地，加州，溫哥華），我仍選擇留在加拿大。
後來香港經濟持續轉差，便沒有人回流了（反而有一些朋友再回流回來加拿大）。
香港經濟轉好，現在又多了人回流了。不只回流到香港，轉往內地，美國，甚至Alberta發展的人也甚多。但十多年後的今天，當全球化已經成為現實，在這個年代，我們如何實踐對國家的承擔？全球化與國家主義(nationalism)是否相排斥？居留是否承擔的必然先決假設？
我不知道。

Nice post Alan. The real issue is not, in my opinion, commitment in the light of globalization, nationalism or locale. If someone tells me they are returning back to HK because that’s where they feel home is, sure. But when all s/he cares “back home” is nothing more than getting a job, get the paycheque and then ‘let’s go shopping” (same for those who re-return to Canada from overseas), this rootlessness and care-lessness is that which really bothers me. Are those who go back to HK with their Canadian passports willing to stand with HK through thick and thin or are they just opportunists? On the other hand, Are those of us who remain in (or re-return to) Canada because we are committed to the welfare of the people and the country (I am glad you are one) or just because of the relatively peaceful and carefree lifestyle?
The question is not “where”. It is “whether”. I will be happy with people pick a place simply because they care. We are corporeal beings. Our hearts and minds must go with our bodies. Since I can’t be omnipresent, I must start with where I am.

The problem is, when is it legitimate for me to abandon one place and recommit to another place? If I care about one place, why would I move to another? And if I move, does it always imply that I do not care about my previous place(s)? If it is a “root”, can it really be replanted?

對一個國家有無感情其實重不重要?
極端D,如果所有人都opportunistic, 最起碼…世界和平.

我想，每一個人都渴望有家有國。這是一種擺不掉的身份認同問題。
而愛國，不一定會變成為與外國敵對或戰爭。我愛我的家與我愛我的鄰舍之間並無衝突。
相反，機會主義者才可能會引起事端吧…
